High winds from Tropical Storm Jose on Wednesday night had police, firefighters and Eversource crews responding to several reports of downed trees and branches.

Hurricane Jose was about 300 miles southeast of New York City Tuesday afternoon and is expected to swing well east of Long Island.

A tropical storm warning remains in effect along the MA coast from Woods Hole to Sagamore Beach and includes Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

Jose is a large storm, with tropical storm force winds reaching 205 miles from its center.

No power outages were reported by PSEG Long Island as of Wednesday morning.

Jose wasn't moving much, however, and that is a trend that is expected to continue into next week.

BEWARE OF MISINFORMATION: As you seek online information on these tropical systems, watch out for "hype sites" and provocative social media posts that only showcase the more dire computer forecast model solutions. In some ways, Jose's impacts will resemble what a nor'easter would produce in southeast New England, but without the snow.

Jose was downgraded to a tropical storm late Tuesday night as its top winds decreased to about 70 miles per hour (110 kph).

Potential coastal hazards from the storm include high surf, beach erosion and risky rip currents. Additional coastal flooding is possible elsewhere along the Northeast coast over the next several days.
