On Wednesday, Damon denied the reports saying he had no idea about the story.

Post the controversy, Weinstein was sacked from The Weinstein Company (TWC) as co-chairman.

Following the Vanity Fair article in which Donald Trump allegedly told his long-time security chief Keith Schiller "I hate everyone in the white house", Jimmy Kimmel had great fun probing the story on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Kimmel, as part of his role on "The Man Show", once put an object in his trousers and encouraged women on the street to feel around for it. I was never conscripted to do anything. His denial follows various celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo, George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meryl Streep, denounce Weinstein's alleged actions, which were first reported by the New York Times last week, as "disgraceful" and "sickening".

The actors have been facing backlash ever since the allegations were made, but now The Martian co-star Jessica Chastain has publicly defended Damon.

The New York Times's executive editor Dean Baquet, who wasn't working for the paper in 2004, said: "It is unimaginable to me that The Times killed a story because of pressure from Harvey Weinstein, who was and is an advertiser".
