Porsche builds electric Cayman to showcase new EV tech

12 October, 2017, 15:03 | Author: Sammy Rose

Called the Cayman e-volution, the research vehicle has been created to preview "just how sporty Porsche believes e-mobility can be". The system is developed in partnership with Porsche Engineering and ADS-TEC, and has been envisioned as a supplement for areas where the distribution system is subject to power limitations.

This version of the small sports auto is also a preview of the Mission E, which will be Porsche's first all-electric model that is due to come into production in 2019.

When Porsche decided it was going to go ahead with its Mission E concept for 2019, it also made the bold claim that it would develop a charging system that could juice up the vehicle with an 80-percent charge in just 15 minutes.

India's Ashish Nehra set to retire from worldwide cricket, say media reports
Ashish Nehra has created a buzz in media by his announcement that he is retiring from global cricket. Overall, Nehra has 44 Test wickets, 157 ODI wickets and 34 scalps in T20Is.

Looking like a pretty bog-standard pre-718 Cayman, the E-Volution comes with a graphic on the side which says "Turbo Charging". Porsche sticks by its original claim that the Mission E will be able to charge to 80 percent capacity in just 15 minutes.

We assume the E-Volution comes with a similar setup to the Mission-E as it will hit 62mph in 3.3 seconds - much quicker than any ICE Cayman - although it clearly has a modest battery pack with a range of just 124 miles - less than a third of the Mission-E. It packs an all-electric drivetrain that sends the vehicle to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds, more than a second quicker than the current 718 Cayman S. Its battery only lasts about 125 miles between charges, but that's fine, because it's never going into series production. The first such high-power fast charging network will be constructed on major European traffic routes by 2020 in a collaboration between Porsche, Audi, BMW, Daimler and Ford.
