Noida: On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court acquitted Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Tawalr, who were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Ghaziabad CBI court for killing their 14-year old daughter Aarushi Talwar.

After the verdict, Aarushi's grandfather talked to CNN-News18 and said that he is grateful for the "positive" judgment and he always knew that Nupur and Rajesh were innocent.

After a Special CBI Court in Ghaziabad convicted them for the murders in 2013 and handed them life terms, the Talwars appealed in the Allahabad High Court against the verdict.

As per reports, the court is likely to re-evaluate the testimony of key witnesses after the defence had accused the prosecution of tutoring them.

Aarushi was found dead on the morning of May 16, 2008, in her bedroom in Flat No L-32, Jalvayu Vihar in Noida. But, to the surprise of the police, his body was found another day on the terrace of the building in a locked room.

"The couple was very happy.they said that justice had been done to them finally, " said an official of the Dasna jail in Ghaziabad, where the couple were now lodged. A series of lapses marked the investigation, both when it was handled originally by the Noida police and then by the CBI. Seeing the circumstances, it found Rajesh Talwar as the sole suspect, but couldn't charge him as their was lack of evidence against him. The CBI said that it is waiting for a copy of the judgment and after going through it would move the Supreme Court in appeal.

Both Nupur Talwar and Rajesh Talwar were found guilty of murdering Aarushi and the helper of the house Hemraj. Rajesh Talwar was similarly arrested, then released, then re-arrested. The murders of Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj gripped the imagination of the nation, indeed several other parts of the world.

Indeed, the film did make the viewer's sympathies tilt towards the parents of the murdered child, showing in meticulous and painstaking detail how the entire investigation was messed up from the word "go". She (Nupur Talwar) said they got justice today and had tears of joy. Judges pinpoint loopholes in the CBI investigation. "The chain of evidence they have showcased is inconclusive".

The Talwars were convicted by a lower court in 2013 and sentenced to life prison.
