  • Hear Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' Version of 1978 'Halloween' Theme Song

The new version of the Halloween theme song can be found on composer/director John Carpenter's Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 next week.

As Carpenter prepares to release Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, an album of newly-recorded versions of his movie themes, Reznor teams up with Atticus Ross to weave a potent and freaky-as-hell cover of the instrumental Halloween tune.

The new version adds atmospherics that up the ante on the suspense and when it feels like it's ready to let you go, it jumps right into a deconstructed drum beat that you don't want to stop playing.

Hear Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' Version of 1978 'Halloween' Theme Song

John Carpenter's Halloween is one of the finest horror flicks ever made, and it will no doubt become required viewing over the next few weeks.

Iconic horror and thriller film director John Carpenter is readying himself for the October 20 release of Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, a collection of 13 classic themes from cinematic classics that include the likes of The Thing, The Fog and Escape From New York. We left the theater forever changed. And boy was it worth the wait. The music to me acts as nearly another character in the film.

Carpenter also commented on the new theme himself, stating "Moody and dark, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' version of Halloween does fantastic justice to the original". You can catch John Carpenter now on tour performing all your favorite hits in a city near you. It doesn't have the original "Halloween" theme on it, mind, just this new Reznor/Ross version.
