Showtime has announced that it will produce and distribute the forthcoming series The Kingkiller Chronicle, based on the world of Patrick Rothfuss' bestselling fantasy novels. (The third book in the series has yet to be published.) While details are scarce about what story, exactly, the TV show will tell, Showtime has announced it will take place in the same universe as the books and tell a sort of origin story, set a generation before the events of the first novel.
Miranda who will also be composing the music for the show, is helping to bring the project to life with studio Lionsgate and fellow executive producer John Rogers, Deadline reported. "Pat also writes about the act of making music more beautifully than any novelist I've ever read". There's also now a third book being written, but it has yet to have been released, leaving some to wonder if this series will take the Game of Thrones approach and eventually overtake the source material.
Miranda won two Tony Awards for the Broadway musical Hamilton, which received a record 16 nominations, winning 11.
