He adds; his sense of Texan pride makes it hard for him to be far away from home during the aftermath of the shooting. The man who was identified as John Barnhill said that the devil couldn't beat the people of Texas.

"I don't understand this and I'm not going to try", he said. He says all of the money will go directly to the families.

"May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas".

Shootings in places of worship are not new.

There was standing room only inside of a tent on the baseball field adjacent from the main church building. "Combine that with fairly free access to guns and you end up with a deadly cocktail", said Nelson.

Pomeroy says he wanted to ensure everyone who walked in to the service "knows that those who died lived for their Lord and savior".

Mike Ebert, a NAMB leader who attended the service, said the sentence quoted by CNN reflects Pomeroy's "big encouragement" in his message: "not to let one moment of evil that took place, one moment of darkness, win the day". He lost his 14-year-old daughter during the attack.

Then he wiped his eyes before saying: "I guarantee they are dancing with Jesus today".

The crowd stood, clapped and raised their hands to heaven as Pomeroy spoke. CNN reported that in April of 2016, Kelly purchased one of the rifles that was used in the shooting from Academy Sports + Outdoors store in San Antonio, Texas.

The front three rows were reserved for survivors of the attack and the families of those killed.
