Record-Breaker Romelu Lukaku Gives Manchester United Fans Major Boost on International Duty

  • Romelu Lukaku scoring for Belgium against Japan

The Manchester United striker scored the only goal in Belgium's win over Japan on Tuesday night to move above Bernard Voorhoof and Paul Vam Himst with 31 worldwide goals.

Roberto Martinez opted for a strong starting lineup, with all of Jan Vertonghen, Kevin De Bruyne, Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku given the nod.

United's most expensive signing of the summer hasn't hit the net for the Red Devils since September, drawing a blank in seven consecutive games including defeats against Huddersfield against Chelsea, but got things back on track in style in games against Mexico and Japan.

That supposedly equaled the all-time scoring record for his country and his strike in the 1-0 win over Japan last night was meant to put him out on his own.

Romelu Lukaku paid tribute to his Belgium team-mates after breaking the country's all-time scoring record with his 31st worldwide goal on Tuesday.

Johnson to meet husband of aid worker jailed in Iran
There have been calls for Johnson to quit in the wake of the gaffe, but Ratcliffe said he should stay and clean up his mess. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is to meet the husband of a British-Iranian woman jailed in Iran later.

However, while he may personally see himself as the record holder, football's governing body FIFA do not see it that way.

Lukaku scored 11 goals in qualifying for next year's World Cup as Belgium cruised to the top of UEFA's Group H.

Adnan Januzaj's official debut - which was made in that game - has also been wiped.

He said: "I've improved my movement, especially in the box".
