  • Trump's task of balancing diplomacy in Asia with interests of his voters is no easy task

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later said of the meeting between Trump and Duterte: "The conversation focused on ISIS, illegal drugs, and trade". His flight left more than 30 minutes earlier than planned and he also missed a group photo with other world leaders.

He said the trip had resulted in sales of $300bn (£229bn) "worth of equipment and other things".

"You're the only one", Trump responded.

President Donald Trump pitched a go-it-alone, "America First" trade policy Friday to nations that once pinned their economic hopes on a regional pact led by the United States, vowing to protect USA interests against foreign exploitation.

The draft chairman's statement said leaders from all 18 nations "strongly urged" North Korea to "immediately and fully comply with all relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions" and for the country to "abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programs in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner".

President Donald Trump has arrived in the Philippines to attend a pair of worldwide summits and close his five-country tour of Asia.

During brief remarks to reporters, Trump said he and Duterte have "had a great relationship" but avoided questions on whether he'd raise human rights issues. Under the terms being discussed, the United States could re-enter the pact in the future.

Trump said during a news conference Sunday in Vietnam that he believes US intelligence agencies, which have concluded Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election to help him win.

"It was red carpet like nobody, I think, has probably ever seen", Trump told reporters. "And that really is a sigh of respect, perhaps for me a little, but really for our county".

As if to underscore the contrast, President Xi Jinping of China, who took the stage immediately after Trump, used his own speech to make a spirited defense of globalization, saying it should be "more open, more inclusive, more balanced, more equitable and more beneficial to all". "As now led by fine people, I believe very much in our intelligence agencies". "Historians will date this trip as a key moment in the decline of USA power in the Asia-Pacific region, when Asian leaders stepped up and took the reins", she said.

The president warned the same day against "large agreements that tie our hands" and said he would focus on country to country agreements.
