  • India Creates History, Fire Tests BrahMos From IAF Su 30!

The victorious maiden test firing will significantly reinforce the Indian Air Force's air warfare methods ability from stand-off ranges.

The BrahMos-A was successfully flight-tested from an modified Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet against a sea based target in the Bay of Bengal.

In a major milestone, the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile was on Wednesday successfully test fired for the first time from a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet off the Bay of Bengal.

The air force version of 8.4-meter BrahMos missile, fastest in the world, has a strike range of 290 km and carries a conventional warhead up to 300 kg. BrahMos is a mutual endeavor between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPOM of Russian Federation.

India has offered the BrahMos missile system to Vietnam, which like India is threatened by China's growing military assertiveness. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and BrahMos Aerospace have been working on integrating the BrahMos missiles on two Sukhois for flight trials, which kicked off in June 2016.

The air variant of the missile is lighter than its sea and land counterparts.

The missile, which travels nearly three times faster than sound, was in April successfully test fired from an Indian Navy ship.

The Brahmos, originally developed as a surface-launched anti-ship missile was first tested by the navy in 2003.

In a tweet, she congratulated the team Brahmos and DRDO for the historic achievement.

Hundreds of BrahMos missiles have already been inducted into the Indian Army and nearly all Indian front-line warships now boast of this supersonic cruise missile.

'This is the first for the world - a supersonic cruise missile with such a high range.'BrahMos is the first beneficiary of India's MTCR membership. The payload of the missile had to be reduced because of the moving platform from which the missiles were to be launched, and Brahmos took this task into account.
