According to a Reuters report, Apple is alleging that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and 820 processors infringe on its patents regarding power management. Unless the two settle their differences out of court, it may take years until we hear final verdicts in these patent lawsuits - and these trials are bound to become even more complicated.

The July suit by Qualcomm alleged that Apple was using several patents that helped improve battery life.

In January, Apple sued Qualcomm for almost $1 billion in patent royalty rebates that Qualcomm allegedly withheld from Apple.

Apple is seeking monetary damages, but the exact amount has not yet been disclosed.

Instead, its primary goal is to exclude Intel modems from the United States, while giving free passage to allegedly infringing Apple products that incorporate a Qualcomm modem. Apple has denied infringing on any of Qualcomm's patents, saying such patents were invalid.

This is of course just the latest skirmish in a larger legal battle between the two, which doesn't look like it is going to end any time soon. Samsung and Google are not named in Apple's counterclaims. The phone makers are not listed in the suit.

The patents the Cupertino tech giant is alleging were infringed are focused on the phone processor using only the minimum power needed, turning off parts of the processor when not in use and facilitating the processor's sleep and wake functions.

"Apple began seeking those patents years before Qualcomm began seeking the patents it asserts against Apple in this case", the company wrote in its complaint.

The research firm estimates that Apple has sold more than 15 million iPhone X devices since the November 3 launch.
