Numerous women Horovitz allegedly preyed on said they maintained complex relationships with him after the initial alleged attacks, and Meinhardt said she even had consensual sex with him twice more, "in that I didn't say no clearly".

Israel Horovitz, the longtime playwright-director who helmed the 2014 film "My Old Lady", has been accused of sexual misconduct by nine women. But a new New York Times exposé collects the stories of many women who claim they were horribly abused by Israel Horovitz. "To say I feel betrayed would be a gross understatement, and my heart goes out to the victims who have lived with this for so many years and the pain they must be experiencing all over again". "We are individually and collectively appalled by the allegations, both old and new".

Board member Liz Neumeier sent an email to Gloucester Stage members November 30 explaining that the staff had been contacted by a reporter at the New York Times with news of allegations against Horovitz from nine women.

The women came forward to the New York Times, speaking on the record about allegations that stretch back to 1986, and one of which occurred as recently as a year ago.

Israel Horovitz, the founding artistic director and most notable literary light at the tiny Gloucester Stage Company, has cut ties with the theater amid renewed accusations of sexual misconduct that allegedly spanned decades and occurred as recently as a year ago. She alleged he drove her to his family's home and kissed and fondled her behind locked doors, before leading her to the bedroom and raping her.

"He was a good mentor, until he was the worst, probably most nightmarish mentor you could have", Meinhardt told The Times. In 1993 a story in the Boston Phoenix detailed the very similar allegations of 10 unnamed women accusing him of sexual assault and harassment while he was the artistic director of the Gloucester Stage Company.

Following the claims, Ad-Rock has said that he "believe [s] the allegations against my father are true, and I stand behind the women that made them". The president of the board of the Gloucester Stage Company dismissed the accusations at the time.

Many women who came forward were teenagers who were working under Horovitz and considered the award-winning author, who penned plays such as The Indian Wants the Bronx and Park Your Car in Harvard Yard, a mentor.
