A DAWN auto bombing claimed by Islamic State hit the finance ministry of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government today, killing two guards and wounding four, a security source said.

The force of the blast also shattered windows of adjacent houses. "Some of them have light injuries due to shattered glass, majority civilians", Col. Nasser Babad, director of the police station in KhorMaksar, told Xinhua.

In a statement on its Amaq propaganda arm, IS claimed the "detonation of a parked explosive-laden vehicle" outside the ministry building in Yemen's second city Aden, the SITE Intelligence monitoring group reported. Ambulances were seen heading to the scene, they said.

A Saudi-led coalition is helping restore the global recognised government of president Abdrabu Mansur Hadi to power.

During the past two years, the Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and other terrorist groups including the IS had an active presence in southern Yemen.
