In separate trades announced Wednesday night, the Twins shipped $1 million of their remaining 2017-18 global bonus money to both the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels in exchange for promising 2017 June draftees.

Banuelos immediately becomes the top catching prospect in the Twins' system, ahead of 2016 second-rounder Ben Rortvedt and projected 2018 backup Mitch Garver, their minor league player of the year.

Minnesota in separate trades on Thursday acquired catcher David Banuelos from Seattle and outfielder Jacob Pearson from the Angels, both 2017 draft picks.

Pearson was Los Angeles' third-round selection this year.

"I would love to thank the Angels for everything".

Matt Snyder of CBSSports.com noted Ohtani and his representatives met with all seven finalists by the conclusion of Tuesday, suggesting either a choice or a narrowing of the field could be the next step.

Ohtani, 23, is a two-way star in Japan who wants to try to do the same in Major League Baseball.

Whichever team Ohtani chooses to sign with will owe his Japanese club a $20 million posting fee. Also, all three major league outfielders - Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Kole Calhoun - are now signed through 2020, at least.

Rosenthal noted the Angels received $1 million in additional global slot money as a result of the move. The Rangers have $3.535 million while the Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, and Padres have $300,000 each. Because he's under age 25, he can only sign a minor league rookie contract, meaning he will make the league minimum for the first three seasons before becoming arbitration eligible.

The Angels followed suit with a trade of their own with the Twins, adding $1 million as well to bump their available pool to $2.315 million. Marte had vision problems during his physical. But the Mariners general manager's actions speak volumes about their dogged pursuit of the most coveted free agent of the offseason.
