  • What's 2017's most-talked-about moment on Facebook?

The Facebook Year in Review 2017 video also highlighted the top two offline moments that involved using the social network to create events.

The attention on the site surrounding the March 8 event had doubled since a year ago, Facebook reported, adding that it saw 'people around the world talking, sharing and posting in celebration of women and related issues'. But first, let's look at the major events people were talking about on Facebook in 2017.

The news comes just as the #MeToo movement and the women who sparked it were named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

This year's event saw more than 165 million people generate more than 430 million interactions around the world, with the US, Brazil, India, Mexico and Argentina driving the conversations and making up 50 per cent of the total posts. The Women's March also made Twitter's top 10 list of the most used hashtags. The Las Vegas shooting drove the most users to offer help using the platform's Crisis Response tools.

The New York Times reports the mystery buyer was a little-known Saudi prince according to documents it reviewed. In 2013, Salvator Mundi was bought by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for $127.5 million.

Quake in Mexico: The response to this crisis in late September drove the highest number of total interactions within Crisis Response on Facebook of the year, with millions of people marking themselves safe, offering help to their community or donating to the cause. Hurricane Harvey was the largest fundraiser for a single cause on Facebook in 2017, raising more than $20 million in the wake of the disaster. The most-viewed video and live broadcast on the social network this year was One Love Manchester, which raised over $450,000 for those affected by the terrorist attack in Manchester, England and generated more than 80 million views. Just head over to facebook.com/yearinreview to access yours. The broadcast was both the biggest live video and the most-viewed video with views topping 80 million.

If 2017 was the year for you, Facebook's blog post compiled the good (and the bad) trends. Facebook also dropped its five percent cut of any donations made on Facebook, giving 100 percent to the organization.

There's no doubt that 2017 was a roller coaster of a year, and Facebook says its users generated the most chatter about International Women's Day, Super Bowl 51 and the Las Vegas mass shooting while also coming together to give back in times of crisis.
