Facebook is celebrating the first year of games on Messenger by introducing new titles and a few new features, starting with the ability to livestream them to friends.

Players have spent over 360 thousand hours a week on Instant Games. The new live streaming capability via Facebook Live makes it simple for people to play and share their experiences with those who love games on Messenger. Interestingly, for what may be a first in games, there are more females on the platform than males. The company's gaming platform years ago had earned a peak of a quarter-billion dollars per quarter on its 30 percent tax on in-game purchases, and it leveraged Facebook's network effects to help games go viral. It's super easy to get started: "while playing a game, tap the camera icon located in the upper right corner of the game", Facebook said in a press release. Once this is selected you can choose the audience you wish to broadcast to and add a short description to say something about your video. Going live in an Instant Game initiates a stream on your Facebook profile or page, which posts as a traditional video after the broadcast has concluded. It will allow users and friends to watch each other's reaction as they play the game.

This is a great tool for broadcasters or just friends to use to enhance their connections and conversations with friends.

Amsterdam-based CoolGames is working with Rovio to bring Angry Birds to Messenger's Instant Games platform in early 2018. Sonic Jump takes elements and characters of previous titles in the superfast platforming series but repurposes them for a whole new adventure and is set to launch on Messenger in the coming weeks.
