The news comes after it was revealed Peter Strzok, a trusted and experienced counter-intelligence agent who helped lead the Clinton probe, allegedly exchanged pro-Clinton and anti-Trump texts with his lover, Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page.
FBI Director Christopher Wray defended his agency Thursday against President Donald Trump's criticisms, amid a mounting Republican push aimed at discrediting the probe into alleged collusion between the USA leader's campaign and Russian Federation in last year's election. And it's now at the center of a political firestorm after reports that former top FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok sent text messages critical of Trump to a colleague while he worked for special counsel Roberts Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.
The head of the FBI defended the bureau's policies for notifying victims of state-sponsored cyberattacks Thursday after coming under fire for reportedly alerting only a fraction of the current and former USA government officials allegedly targeted by Russian military intelligence. Wray said he had never heard any of the officials listed by Gohmert discussing an anti-Trump agenda.
Wray told lawmakers that while he agreed with the investigation into the handling of the server as well as the removal of the FBI agent, he said it would not be "appropriate" for him to speculate on the investigation.
"I'm not aware of any senior FBI executives who are allowing improper political considerations to affect their work with me right now", FBI Director Christopher Wray replied. "I see example after example of fidelity, integrity and bravery".
Citing unnamed sources, CNN reported that it was Strzok who signed the document that officially opened the FBI's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 US election, and that he changed key language on the recommendation of former FBI Director James Comey not to prosecute Clinton for her handling of classified information.

BOB GOODLATTE: While some will take umbrage with President Trump's assertion, it does appear to me that at the very least, the FBI's reputation as an impartial, nonpolitical agency has been called into question recently. "And when we make mistakes, there are independent processes like that of the outside independent inspector general".
The emphasis on the Clinton and Trump probes reflected how the FBI in the last two years has found itself entangled in American politics, with investigations focused on the Democratic presidential nominee and the Republican president and his successful campaign.
