  • Google launches three experimental photo apps for Android, iOS

Google seems to understand the need for revolutionary apps to come onboard and make our experience better.

According to Google, the Appsperiments project was partially inspired by Motion Stills - an app that the company released in 2016 on iOS, and this year on Android. The apps are called Storyboard, Selfissimo!

The tech giant had previously announced that it would be limiting the use of the service to actual needs of people with special access needs and blocking the many apps that use it to add functionality for the general population. The app uses object recognition and style algorithms to automatically grab interesting frames from a video and drop them into comic-style layouts with appropriate filters.

What do experimental technologies denote, you may ask? Well, it means that these technologies are still in the development stage and Google has integrated them into the apps to test them further and fix the shortcomings. Users can elect to save individual images or the entire collection to Photos. The first app released is called Storyboard (Android only) which will transform your videos into a single-page comic layout. Not really - in many ways, they're the novelty features that you see phone makers trot out at launch events and never mention again.

Selfissimo is an automated selfie photographer that snaps a "stylish" black and white photo each time you pose. One has to tap the screen to start a photo shoot and the app also encourages the user to pose and capture a photo whenever you stop moving.

Scrubbies is an app which will let you change the playback speed and direction of a video to produce video loops and replay moments. Google describes this as working sort of in the same way a DJ scratches a record. Scrubbing with one finger plays the video. Performing the same scrubbing operation with two fingers captures playback for saving or sharing.

Enough talk, though, here are the details for each new app you can download right now.

The new photography applications are "Storyboard" (available on Android only), "Selfissimo!".

Scrubbies is the one which is only available for iOS at this time.

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and try out these apps.
