According to Google Assistant Program Manager Maksim Mukha, "The Assistant on tablets will be rolling out over the coming weeks to users with [their device's language] set to English in the U.S". Indeed, up to this point Assistant has only been available to Android phone users running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher.
With the Assistant on tablets, you can you can get help throughout your day-set reminders, add to your shopping list (and see that same list on your phone later), control your smart devices like plugs and lights, ask about the weather and more.
As with handsets, Google is offering the Google Assistant to tablet devices set to English, although it's not rolling it quite as far back as with mobiles. In addition, Android powered handsets running Android Lollipop (5.0) will be the recipient of an update that will add the virtual assistant. Its availability is far more limited as Assistant will only work if you're in the US and your tablet's language is set to English, but considering how unpopular Android tablets are these days, this likely won't be too big of an issue.
