The Department of Homeland Security says it will once again accept renewal requests from recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in response to a court order.

The program granted temporary protection from deportation to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S.as children, often referred to as "dreamers". But in a statement Saturday, DHS said: "Until further notice, and unless otherwise provided in this guidance, the DACA policy will be operated on the terms in place before it was rescinded on September 5, 2017". As of September, about 700,000 people are now protected under the program.

Renewal applications will, however, only be accepted from people who previously received DACA and whose deferred action had expired on or after September 5, 2016. "So great great news for DACA that we will now be able to do DACA renewals".

The announcement comes days after a federal judge in California temporarily blocked the Trump administration's efforts to end DACA.

On Friday, Trump attacked the deal through his Twitter account, saying it did not adequately fund his call for a wall along the southern border, and that it made the issues of chain migration and the lottery VISA system worse.

Trump gave Congress six months to find a way to allow immigrant approved for the DACA program to remain in the USA permanently.

Salinas she can't take a permanent teaching position because her work permit would expire in the middle of next year.
