Turkey launched a military offensive on January 20 to oust the YPG from Afrin.
A Turkish military combat helicopter crashed on Saturday in northwestern Syria's Afrin during the ongoing operation, and two soldiers were killed, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said.
Mr Erdoğan who spoke on Saturday in Istanbul did not disclose the name of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units or YPG. They were inducted into Turkish Army service in May 2014.
The YPG, which has ties with Turkey's outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), was the US-led coalition's main ground partner in the fight against ISIS in Syria.
But the state-run news agency Anadolu said the incident happened in the southern border province of Hatay, with the private Dogan news agency saying authorities were trying to reach the wreckage in the Kirikhan district.
According to Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as to protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.
Yildirim earlier said Turkey had not launched its operation in Afrin to enter into a war or because it had "an eye" on another country's territory. However, the term is usually used for the terrorists who have been killed in the operations.
The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on worldwide law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, the military said.
"This is a threat to Turkey which Ankara has the natural right to fight under global and domestic law", Yildirim added.
