  • Sledgehammer Games co-founders Condrey, Schofield leave studio

The founders of Sledgehammer Games - Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield - are resigning from their posts as co-presidents of the Call of Duty studio, and they are moving on to new roles within Activision. We thank Glen and Michael for their tremendous body of work on Call of Duty and look forward to continuing to collaborate with them in their new roles.

The publisher added that this change has "created an opportunity to elevate one of the key leaders at the studio, Aaron Halon, to lead Sledgehammer Games". Now that the pair are free from Call of Duty, they will be exploring other game ideas under the Activision banner. Activision had no comment regarding what these particular projects will entail. The studio, now fronted by Halon, will continue working on all planned WWII content despite this shake-up, Activision told Polygon. The two really put their names on the radar when they made Dead Space at Visceral Games ten years ago and when they chose to create their own studio, Sledgehammer Games, shortly after.

The co-founders of a popular Call of Duty developer have chose to move on from the company that they started.

We'll have more on Schofield and Condrey's new duties as the news becomes available. "Thank you to everyone". On a personal level, I'm deeply grateful to the men and women who have poured their passion into the pursuit of excellence with us.

As for Condrey, he said in his own statement that working at Sledgehammer was the "greatest experience of [his] professional life". "I am looking forward to starting a new chapter of my career with Activision", Condrey said.

In their place, Aaron Halon, who previously acted as Senior Development Director on COD: WWII, will now take over as head of the whole studio. Before setting up Sledgehammer, they were part of the team at the now-shuttered Visceral Games that created Dead Space. This isn't any sort of hasty departure, though, as they'll be taking internal roles at Activision itself. The studio is responsible for developing three games in the "Call of Duty" franchise, "Modern Warfare 3" with Infinity Ward released in 2011, "Advanced Warfare" released in 2014 and last year's "Call of Duty: WWII".
