Sofia Goggia is not known for her elegant style.

Her medal in PyeongChang made her the first woman to win three straight world slalom titles in 78 years. "Silver" in the team of the Netherlands, "bronze" - American athletes.

Now that's sportsmanship! Who else is has #FrienshipGoals for Vonn and Goggia?

"I gave it all today, skied a great race". "I gave this my best shot", she explained.

The 37-year-old Bjoergen has won four medals at the Pyeongchang Games.

Bjoergen's bronze with Maiken Caspersen Falla put her on 14 Olympic medals, outstripping fellow Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, who has 13 in biathlon. I wish I could keep going, I wish this wasn't my last Olympics, but it is and I'm trying to accept that, deal with the emotions of that and enjoy the ride. I have so much fun.

"If you think about what's happened over the past eight years and what I've been through. you've got to keep things in perspective", Vonn said. "My body just can't, probably can't, take another four years".

Talking about her Olympic downhill finale, Vonn added, "It was tough to contemplate this being my last Olympic downhill". In a way, this was her "defense".

"I'm so proud to have competed with such wonderful girls", the 33-year-old said.

"You don't want your team mate to get hurt, but you've got to anticipate", Poulin said. "But I'm proud of my performance".

This was no shock in the manner of snowboarder Ester Ledecka's win in the super-G at the weekend as Goggia leads the World Cup downhill standings, even if the Italian had finished second behind Vonn in their two most recent meetings.

Maybe mind games. Maybe a ploy. "Afterwards, you turn your head and see your time and how the other racers have done".

At Jeongseon Alpine Center, Goggia was behind on the leaderboard at the top, but sped up near the bottom of the hill.

Shiffrin won gold in Sochi in 2014 and is the reigning World Cup overall champion. The United States has won the last four.

"I still don't realize I'm first", Goggia said. "But I'm happy to do that - that's sportsmanship". I moved like a Samurai. "I'm not elegant but I paid attention at every moment to what I was doing". I believed in myself.

"It's been really hard for me to not get emotional for some many reasons, especially because of my grandfather", Vonn said.

Mikaela Shiffrin didn't race downhill because of the altered Olympic program.

And the Alpine combined is the ideal event to have two of the biggest names in skiing race.

"This is a really big surprise", said Mowinckel, whose medal was a record sixth in Alpine skiing for her country at the Games.

"So if I could physically continue skiing then I absolutely will".

Two Americans finished fifth and seventh: Alice McKennis and Breezy Johnson.

The next Alpine skiing race is men's slalom on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.

The United States has 12 total medals so far, and only five of them are gold. The downhill is scheduled to begin at 11:30 Korea - 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night in Boston.
