And it's happened at the Winter Games, where Canada has won four straight gold medals, including three times over the US squad. The Canadians have dominated the game in the last four Winter Olympics as they never suffered a defeat since US beat them 20 years ago. In this year's Games, the USA team has won three out of its four match-ups, losing once to, you guessed it, Canada.
The United States of America won a gold medal in ice hockey for the first time in 20 years, and it literally couldn't have been a closer finish. The players making their Olympic debut in PyeongChang, Bellamy said after Team USA advanced to the final, "do not know the heartbreak".
The Americans got three power plays in the opening period and took advantage of the third one when former Minnesota Duluth defenseman Sidney Morin snapped a shot that former Wisconsin forward Hilary Knight deflected past Shannon Szabados in the final minute of the opening frame.

As the contest remained locked at 2-2 after five rounds, it went to sudden-death with Lamoureux-Davidson drawing Shannon Szabados toward her before sliding the puck behind the Canadian goalie to put the US ahead.
Rooney, a 20-year-old in her first Olympic final, turned away 29 of 31 before the shootout. Canada won that preliminary round 2-1 despite being out shot by the Americans 45-23. It was the team's fifth straight Olympic gold medal.
However, a lackluster line change after missing a scoring chance cost the Canadians dearly, as Lamoureux-Morando found herself wide open for a breakaway and beat Szabados glove side to tie it and ultimately force overtime.
But this is why they play.
