  • Parkland students turned away from meeting Florida lawmakers

On Sunday, student survivors of the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School reacted angrily after Trump, without providing evidence, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation may have been too distracted with a Russian Federation probe to follow leads that could have prevented the massacre.

The students also addressed reporters, offering scathing words for lawmakers.

Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School - where a gunman opened fire on February 14, killing 17 - gathered in the state Senate gallery wearing shirts that read "We call BS", a rallying cry for the young activists pushing for action from elected officials. "We want to hear what our children have to say but we want to follow the guidelines provided by the school and district".

The 71-36 vote in the Republican-controlled body shocked students who were sitting in the gallery of the Capitol building.

For instance, the students said the age to purchase an AR-15-style rifle, the weapon used in the February 14 massacre, shouldn't be younger than the age requirement to purchase a handgun.

"Maybe if they see the victims themselves, something will spark a change in their mind", she said.

While the high school walkout was happening, middle-schoolers across the street also participated.

The sheriff of the Florida county where a shooter killed 17 people at a high school last week has ordered all deputies who qualify to begin carrying rifles on school grounds.

Even more walked out of classrooms across the state in protest.

They were joined by thousands of students across Florida and the nation, who walked out of classes to show their support for gun reform.

Students carried large signs, each listing the name of a school where a shooting has taken place, along with the date of the shooting and the number of dead.

Students across Central Texas staged walkouts on Wednesday afternoon to bring awareness to gun violence in schools.

Another said: "I really think we should have more background checks, and how are you going to give an AR-15 to a 19-year-old?"

Sarah Chadwick, a student from Stoneman Douglas High school, made a declaration on the steps of Leon High School in front of hundreds Tuesday night: "Our message is very simple - never again".
