  • OAR bobsledder fails doping test

The Russian Bobsled Federation in a statement confirmed that Nadezhda Sergeeva, a bobsled pilot for the Russian women's team in Pyeongchang, had tested positive for a banned heart medication.

In an extremely rare move for Russian Federation, curler Alexander Krushelnitsky, who tested positive for a banned drug, agreed this week to return his medal before a sanction had been issued.

The Russian bobsleigh federation admitted the positive test and added that Sergeeva had not been prescribed the drug by the team's medical staff.

The statement came a day after Russian curler Alexander Krushelnitsky was stripped of his Pyeongchang Winter Olympics bronze medal after admitting doping.

First, they allowed Russian athletes to compete in the 2018 Games if they submitted to pre-Games testing and special rules, that they felt were an effort to "protect the rights of the individual Russian clean athletes", the International Olympic Committee decision said.

Slovenian hockey player Ziga Jeglic and Japanese speedskater Kei Saito also left the games after testing positive. The World Anti-Doping Agency banned it in 2014.

The IOC's executive board will meet on Saturday to receive the report of a panel it had set up to assess Russia's adherence to the Pyeongchang code of conduct.

In fact, 169 Olympic Athletes From Russia, as they are officially known, arrived in South Korea for the Pyeongchang Games. And yet, two athletes that have tested positive for banned substances are Russian.

The first positive drug test was announced on February 13th, when Japanese men's short track speed skater Kei Saito tested positive for acetazolamide, a prohibited diuretic. Now, the International Olympic Committee will rule on whether or not the athletes will be able to walk in the Closing Ceremony behind the Russian flag.

Russian bobsled pilot Nadezhda Sergeeva made quite a fashion statement previous year when she appeared in a promotional video for clothing brand Zasport, wearing a sweatshirt with "I DON'T DO DOPING" emblazoned across it.

After finishing 12th in the two-man bobsled on Wednesday, Sergeeva told Yahoo Sports that she was disappointed about competing under the OAR label.

However, IOC authorities allowed 169 previously clean athletes to participate in the competition under the OAR banner, or Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation.
