Justin Trudeau visits iconic Taj Mahal with family

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on Sunday with his family.

During his week-long official visit, the Canadian PM is also expected to meet business leaders in Mumbai and visit Indian monuments like Agra's Taj Mahal, Amritsar's Golden Temple, and New Delhi's Jama Masjid.

The family, including wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, and kids Xavier, 10, Ella-Grace, 9, and Hadrien, 3, emerged from the plane and delivered a traditional Indian welcome greeting, with their hands clasped together and their heads slightly bowed, to the delight of officials and Indian media waiting on the ground.

He is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday.

This is Trudeau's maiden visit to the country.

Earlier this month, the magazine Outlook India put Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the cover with the headline "Khalistan II - Made in Canada". Trudeau will travel to Mumbai on February 20 for holding a meeting with top businessmen before meeting the influential people from Bollywood.

A formal ceremony will be held on February 23 before his talks with Modi, who visited Canada in April 2015. The focus will be to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two sides in addition to engaging on the increase in security and defence cooperation.

On Monday, the Canadian PM will fly to Gujarat and pay a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram.
