Apple's 2018 iPhone X Could Get Even More Expensive

The memo says that Apple caught 29 leakers a year ago, 12 of whom were arrested, and threatens its employees with the same fate: "Leakers do not simply lose their jobs at Apple", the memo states.

"Among those were Apple employees, contractors and some partners in Apple's supply chain", the company notes. They highlighted how Apple has been successful in persuading its customers to increase what they pay for iPhones from an average of somewhere around $600 to almost $800 in the last few years. The memo added: "These people not only lose their jobs, they can face extreme difficulty finding employment elsewhere".

"While it may seem flattering to be approached, it's important to remember that you're getting played", it read.

Just last month, an Apple employee who passed confidential information to the media pertaining to Apple's software roadmap, was caught and fired.

Last year, Apple sued and accused an unauthorized iPhone fix shop in Norway.

Sources from multiple Apple Stores have tipped off 9to5Mac with word that in addition to AppleCare employees, external skilled labor has been brought on to cope with incoming jobs. Apple says leaked information can depress sales of existing product models, and give competitors more time to respond to features coming in future models.

This discovery was made via a document Apple filed with the US FCC in September 2017.

It concludes by sharing the news that 12 of the leakers in 2017 were arrested.

Though the leak from the FCC isn't completely unreliable, don't get your hopes up until Apple introduces it themselves, which could likely happen at WWDC this year.

Warren Braunig, a partner at Keker, Van Nest & Peters who specializes in trade secret law, thinks it's unlikely the arrests were related to employees giving information to reporters.

It makes sense why a company such as Apple wants to keep its product details private until they are primed for release to the public. Apple's Global Security team led the internal investigations and worked with suppliers to beef up their security. Now, Apple Store employees have admitted that the Cupertino-based company is hiring external contractors to assist the Apple Store employees. They are the result of a decision by someone who may not have considered the impact of their actions.
