Khurram was even carrying a booklet of AIIMS, which can only be possessed by the doctors of the institute, with his name on it.

In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old man was arrested after he was found masquerading as a doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital for nearly five months. Police said the man, Adnan Khurram from Bihar's Sitamarhi district, was charged under IPC sections 419 and 468 at Hauz Khas police station and sent to Tihar. He used his forged identity to make friends across departments and among medical students. He befriended junior as well as senior doctors at the premier hospital, and even got an access into their WhatsApp group. "Also, she will not be guiding any student for the next three years", said an AIIMS doctor and member of the committee.

Due to his changing statements, police haven't been able to ascertain why he pulled off the fraud.

Financial Express reports that Khurram was charged under IPC Sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for objective of cheating) at Hauz Khas police station and has been lodged in Tihar Jail, DCP (south).

According to RDA president Harjit Singh, Khurram had been observing his activities in the campus for the past many months and chose to keep a watch. The report also quoted Dr Abhishek Singh, who is the vice-president of the Resident Doctors' Association saying that the impersonator had used the name and clout of Resident Doctors Association and attended political and medical conferences.

But all his claims fell flat after the doctors found him participating in a marathon organised by the doctors on Saturday. To some, he would claim to be a junior resident doctor and to the junior resident doctors he would regard himself as an undergraduate medical student.

"AIIMS has around 2,000 resident doctors, it is hard to know each and every person individually", he added.

During a marathon organized by the doctors, some of the doctors got suspicious about Khurram and started questioning him about his identity. When confronted, he could not produce any proof of identity and the doctors called the police and handed him over to the police. The police arrested Adnan Khurram on April 14.

Although, the police found no earlier criminal records of Khurram, during the investigation it was found that the accused had uploaded a lot of pictures wearing the doctor's lab coat and stethoscope on social media.
