British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson on April 15 said that his government took the decision to join missile strikes against Syria without securing parliamentary approval because it was focused on the speed and efficiency of the operation.

The Sunday Times reported security sources who warned that the government was bracing itself for "kompromat" attacks, where embarrassing or compromising material is released about members of the cabinet and other high ranking officials. "You see a kind of continuum of from Salisbury to Syria in the reckless, contemptuous use of these chemical weapons, endangering public health in Salisbury in Wiltshire and completely indiscriminately killing children cowering in buildings in Douma in eastern Ghouta", he said.

"I went to Moscow in December and we held out the hand of engagement", he continued.

"But it was the world saying that we've had enough of the use of chemical weapons".

Mr Johnson said action had to be taken against Syria for the Douma attack during an appearance on The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday.

"And the world said "enough" to the use of such weapons".

"I'm afraid the Syrian war will go on in its awful, miserable way".

Mr Corbyn said the Prime Minister "could easily" have recalled Parliament or delayed her decision until MPs returned on Monday.

"If even such a thing [a chemical attack] were to happen, then clearly, with allies, we would study what the options were", he added.

Meanwhile Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said Parliament should have been given a vote ahead of the strikes.

"In this context, the Council understands the targeted US, French and United Kingdom airstrikes on chemical weapons facilities in Syria as specific measures having been taken with the sole objective to prevent further use of chemical weapons and chemical substances as weapons by the Syrian regime to kill its own people".

Mr Corbyn warned of an escalation in a "proxy war" between the U.S. and Russian Federation.

Mr Corbyn said that if Britain wants to "get the moral high ground around the world" it must abide by global law for taking military action.
