  • FDA announces recall of more than 206M eggs linked to salmonella outbreak

So far, 22 reported cases of salmonella infections are believed to be tied to the contaminated eggs.

The recall was issued through an "abundance of caution" due to reported illnesses in the East Coast.

The affected eggs are from plant number P-1065 and have the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on the package. The recall includes eggs sold in Florida. The farm has 3 million laying hens with a USDA inspector on-site daily, the agency said.

Salmonella is particularly harmful to the elderly and young children, causing symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, fever and diarrhea.

That led to an inspection of the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina that produced the eggs.

It's the largest egg recall in the United States since 2010, according to Food Safety News.

Rose Acre Farms responded to the discovery by voluntarily going through with the recall, and halting production of eggs. The FDA, urges you to stop using the recalled eggs right away and return them to the store you bought them from for a full refund.

More than 200 million eggs were recalled by an IN farm operation after a report of 22 illnesses IN connection with a salmonella outbreak.

The eggs all come from Rose Acre Farms in Indiana. However, in rare circumstances, Salmonellosis can cause the bacteria to enter the bloodstream and produce more serious consequences, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis, according to the FDA.

Eggs were sold to restaurants and in supermarkets under multiple brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value, Nelms and Sunshine Farms.

The service said it is also possible for eggs to become infected by Salmonella Enteritidis fecal contamination through the pores of the shells after they're laid.
