  • Ian Somerhalder will lead new Netflix series'V-Wars

Ian Somerhalder is putting his fangs back on. Based on the IDW comic of the same name by writer Jonathan Maberry, V-Wars follows the adventures of Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) as he tries to understand the nature of the disease that has transformed his best friend Michael Fayne and so many others into vampires. The genre drama joins a roster of Marvel fare including the recently renewed Jessica Jones and gives the streamer a series vampire drama as The CW is prepping the final season of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, while working on yet another offshoot from the franchise. The premise of the books revolves around a mysterious virus that starts transforming humans into bloodthirsty predators, setting the stage for an us-vs. -them war. Brad Turner (Stargate, Stargate Atlantis) will direct and executive produce the series.

According to Comic Book, IDW Entertainment President David Ozer cited Ian Somerhalder as the ideal choice for the V-Wars adaptation, revealing his work on The Vampire Diaries has offered the actor a "keen understanding" of the vampire genre. This time, Somerhalder will be on the other side of the human-vampire struggle. It seems the flawless role for Somerhalder, who knows exactly what it takes to make a series about blood sucking monsters successful, thanks to his experience playing a vampire on television for 8 seasons. "We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide". Unfortunately for him, Michael rises to power as an underground leader of the vampires, putting Swann in a hard spot. V-Wars is produced by High Park in association with IDW. Die hard fans may be upset however, given how talented he was with his portrayal of Salvatore. He also became a producer on the show, and directed a few episodes.
