Local fire and rescue officials said that they were responding to a "mass casualty incident" Monday morning at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, which serves as a state prison for men.

Officials with the department of corrections say the fighting began at 7:15 p.m.

The Department of Corrections said that all corrections and law enforcement officers are safe and that the fights were over by 3 a.m. Monday.

Several emergency crews responded to the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville where seven inmates were killed.

Emergency services from several SC counties responded to the "mass casualty incident", Lee County Fire wrote in a tweet.

In February, an inmate was killed by another inmate in a fight. The inmates held the officer for about 25 minutes before it was secured by law enforcement.

According to The State, the facility houses around 1,600 inmates and is located about 55 miles from Columbia.

Two officers were stabbed there in a 2015 fight.

Taillon could not confirm any more details yet, including who is involved and if there are any injuries or fatalities.
