  • After Texture Acquisition, Apple's Prepping News Subscription Service

At the time, Beats Music had fewer than a million subscribers, and Apple has turned that into more than 40 million paying users. Now, though, a report claims Apple will be putting the newly acquired Texture to work, using it to integrate a premium news and magazine subscription service into Apple News.

The new Texture-News hybrid could launch in the next year. An app combining Apple News and Texture is expected to launch sometime in the next year.

With this new all-you-can-consume model, it would help make things more affordable and could spur more signups.

Texture is a kind of Netflix for magazines, which provides access to around 200 publications for $9.99 per month.

Featured Stock for Investors: BHP Billiton Limited (NYSE:BHP)
Greenwich Invest Mngmt reported 77,708 shares or 3.73% of all its holdings. 45 funds opened positions while 87 raised stakes. By taking a look at the stock's current statistics it can gauged that the stock candle is BEARISH with HIGH volatility.

But it's likely that Apple will approach the subscription service as Texture has, aggregating hundreds of magazines together in an all-you-can-read monthly service, rather than focusing on individual subscriptions. The company created Apple Music after buying headphone maker and streaming provider Beats back in 2014. Texture previously had about 100 staff members. However, these are now sold individually. Would Apple kick them out of the subscription program, if news became unfavorable? Apple Music, iCloud, and App Store revenues rose to $30 billion in the 2017 fiscal year, and the company would like that to be about $50 billion by 2021.

Apple bought Texture last month. "We want the best articles, we want them to look fantastic, and we want them to be from trusted sources.so we don't have a lot of the issues going around", Cue said, likely alluding to the issues that Facebook and Google have had to deal with surrounding unverified news stories populating users' feeds.

There will be some sort of revenue split between Apple and the publishers who will be featured in the service, but there's no details on that.
