Minor blast outside Indian embassy's office in Nepal's Kathmandu, no casualties

Investigation has begun into the small explosion reported on Monday night from the Indian Consulate's office in Biratnagar in Nepal.

Morang district's Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar said the blast caused minor damage to the wall and that the police are investigating the case, the Kathmandu Post reported.

"The wall of the Embassies Contact Office in Biratnagar has been damaged".

"A minor explosion took place along the rear boundary wall of the Camp Office of Embassy of India in Biratnagar, at about 2015 hrs on 16 April 2018".

No group claimed responsibility for the blast but it is suspected a Maoist faction led by Netra Bikram Chand, known for its anti-India rhetoric, could be behind the attack.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has not made any remarks regarding the blast yet.

The camp office of the consulate was set up during the floods in Nepal and north Bihar. The party had called a general strike in Biratnagar yesterday.

The security around the blast site has been stepped up after the incident.

The blast happened in Biratnagar town, near the Indian border, 200 km southeast of the capital, Kathmandu, late on Monday, police official Tilak Shrestha told Reuters.
