  • Kellogg's exits Venezuela over social and economic 'deterioration'

Venezuelan authorities said they were reactivating a Kellogg Co plant under worker control on Wednesday, a day after the USA multinational food producer pulled out of the crisis-hit country.

"With no notification, this USA -based multinational made a decision to close its doors, leaving 570 workers hanging", said Torres at the plant, in Maracay.

"We've begun judicial proceedings against the business leaders of Kellogg's because their exit is unconstitutional", Maduro added to cheers from red-shirted supporters. Oliver illustrates how the country has been led astray by its leadership, from the shortsighted government of the late Hugo Chávez to the outright corruption and catastrophic food shortages seen under Chávez's hand-picked successor Nicolás Maduro, an aspiring authoritarian who would rather obfuscate the truth, play the blame game, or outright change his government's rules to protect his power than fix Venezuela's problems.

The Battle Creek, Michigan-based company said in a statement Tuesday that it was prompted to cease operations as a result of continued economic deterioration.

Alimentos Kellogg S.A. has shuts the doors of its a facility in Maracay, Venezuela, that employs approximately 300 people.

The company's local operations had around 400 workers, according to local media.

Under the backdrop of strict price controls and hyperinflation, Kellogg is the latest multinational to exit the country.

It follows similar moves by General Mills, Kimberley-Clark and Havest Natural Resources, among others.

Socialist Maduro has taken over the factories of some companies that have left the country. "Operations halted due to lack of raw materials, the government took it over, and now it's paralyzed".

In family breakfast cereals, Kellogg's Corn Flakes also held the leading position in 2017 with a 46% value share.

The company said product distribution in Venezuela has been suspended and the license agreement for the use and commercialisation of its brands has been terminated.
