Allardyce took over the reins on November 30 past year, six months after leaving a similarly short stint at Crystal Palace.

The former England boss has managed to revive the Toffees' form since his appointment in January and the club finished the Premier League campaign on eighth position.

Former Watford and Hull City manager Marco Silva is apparently the Goodison Park club's preferred choice to replace Allardyce.

He took over after a poor start to the season under Dutchman Koeman left the club in the relegation zone with two wins from nine matches.

Fonseca, like Silva, was linked with the job earlier in the year but Everton chose to give it to Allardyce instead.

However, he was booed by fans following his side's 2-1 defeat at Burnley in March, and was again criticised after their draw with Swansea six weeks later. During his tenure, the club was also forced to apologise to Allardyce last month for a survey that was sent to fans asking them to rank their manager's performance on a scale of 0 to 10.

Allardyce, who was briefly England manager in 2016 before returning to club management at Crystal Palace last season, had already reacted angrily to the structural changes at the club prior to his meeting with majority owner Iranian-born British tycoon Farhad Moshiri.

Everton scored only 44 goals in 38 outings in the league, the second lowest tally of all teams outside the bottom six, and with the future in mind, the club have decided to make a change.

Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale was promoted to chief executive and Allardyce said he was "disgusted" not to have been informed.

'I'm shocked, disappointed and disgusted that the football club didn't have the decency to tell me, my Director of Football and my staff about the changes, ' he had said.

Asked about Everton's current situation, Stubbs told talkSPORT host Jim White: "I'm pretty sure they have someone in mind".
