  • Tesla Model X enters record books by towing a Boeing Airplane

Avid motoring enthusiasts probably remember Volkswagen towing a Boeing 747 with a diesel V10 Touareg.

Tesla just entered the Guinness World Record book. Nissan managed to pull a gargantuan 170-tonne cargo plane to set a new record in 2013. In fact, previous year a video went viral showing a Tata Hexa towing a Boeing 737-800.

Electric vehicles have the capacity for big torque and that was put to good use here.

The Model X electric SUV pulled a 130-tonne 787-9 Dreamliner nearly 300m, breaking the record for the heaviest tow by an electric passenger vehicle.

Germany leave out two big names as Low announces squad
The 30-year-old Wagner has scored 4 goals in his 8 internationals and was part of last year's Confederations Cup-winning team. Low's entire backroom staff have also agreed new deals, as has national team managing director Oliver Bierhoff.

It's also not the first time Qantas and Tesla have faced off - two years ago a Boeing 737 and Tesla Model S P90D raced over 3km from a standing start at Avalon airport, and while the vehicle grabbed a headstart in the acceleration stakes, the plane thankfully didn't top out at the Tesla's top speed of 250km/h top speed and rubbed it in by taking off.

In what's believed to be a world first, the passenger airliner was hitched to the electric vehicle for towing.

The tow vehicle in the video is a Model X P100D, and the plane is the latest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, carrying a "small amount of fuel on board" but no passengers.
