Kochi: Eighteen people have been convicted for running an arms training camp of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI in December 2007 in Kerala.
Pronouncing the sentence, NIA judge Kausar Edapagath ordered RI for one year and a fine of ₹25,000 under Section 10 of the Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA), five years of RI under Section 38 of UAPA, RI for seven years and a fine of ₹25,000 under the Explosive Substances Act, and another term of seven years under Section 120 (B).
Similarly, Saduli, Hafeez Husain, Safdar Hussain, P A Shibily, Mohammad Ansar, Abdul Sathar, Aamil Parwaz, Dr H A Asadullah, Kamaruddin Nagori, Shakeel Ahmed, Dr Mirza Ahmed, Manzar Imam and Nadeem Sayeed also found guilty for section 20 of UAPA will face additional RI for 7 years and fine of Rs 50,000.
Fourteen convicts, who have been in judicial custody for more than seven years will get the benefit of set off allowed by the court, a defence lawyer said.

The court had acquitted 17 of 35 defendants who faced the trial commenced in January past year.
