Each pic will save to the Facebook cloud and users can choose to share them - or not - via the Facebook app. There's no information on when the feature will be rolled out to iOS users.

But free (and apparently unlimited) photo storage and automatic archiving bridge the gap between ephemeral sharing and Facebook's more typical posts.

Facebook has introduced a number of updates to its Facebook stories feature in India. This will help users with entry-level devices that have limited storage to keep space free on their devices.

Facebook introduces new features to its official app. There is now no limit for a voice post that is shared to News Feed, but the recording time is restricted by the local storage on the user's device.

Facebook first launched the Stories feature in mid-2017. The aim is to make it more attractive to people who can't use Stories the way it is now - and therefore don't use it at all. We've been talking to our community to understand how people want to use Stories, so we can give them the tools to create and connect in meaningful ways.

According to Facebook, for some people photos and text are not the most effective way to communicate. They can also be saved and shared later. Now, Facebook Stories is getting an all-new feature which will allow people to do 'Voice Posts.' This means that your voice can be a Facebook Story.

Facebook Stories has struggled to take off in the same way that WhatsApp Stories or Instagram Stories have. This is the first time it is launching product updates from the Indian market.

Facebook did not provide statistics around the popularity of voice messaging in India.

The feature is located at the top of the page below notifications and above the trending news links.

Facebook is rolling out three new features for Stories.

The third and last feature that Facebook will add is the ability to archive and view older Stories.

So it seems unlikely that Facebook will abandon its Stories platform anytime soon. And while Instagram's Stories are now more popular than Snapchat's, neither has really transcended the basic concept which earned the original so much acclaim.

When someone has an unseen story, their profile picture will be circled with a colourful ring.

And just earlier this month, Facebook added Snapchat-like animated filters to Facebook Live in Ireland.
