The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has alleged a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to "frame and implicate" him.

He said that though the representative of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Aminu Pai Saleh at the meeting said that the four suspects were transferred to Abuja for further investigation, the state Ministry of Justice has successfully prosecuted suspected cultists and killers at the State High Court under the penal code.

But the police through the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, in reaction to Sarak's allegations, Wednesday evening, said it was true that the police have transferred the suspects linked to a string of killings in Kwara State to Abuja.

The Senate is still discussing appropriate response to the information as at the time of writing this story.

After making the statement, Saraki vacated the seat to enable Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu to preside on the debates.

The suspects were arrested in Kwara State and paraded before the press in Ilorin, the state capital, last week Friday, Moshood said in a statement.

"I want to bring this risky development to the attention of all of you my colleagues, the entire country and the worldwide community so that you can be aware of the level of impunity in our country and the danger it constitute to our democracy", the President of the Senate said.

"With the information that he has, they would find how to alter their statement already made in Ilorin and try and implicate the state government and particularly myself".

The information reaching him as he received from the Inspector General of Police, is that they had been directed by the IGP to bring them to Abuja.

"These acts are of desperation, blackmail and intimidation".

As we speak now, these suspects are already here in Abuja.

He said the plot is an act of desperation, blackmail and crude tactics aimed at turning Nigeria into a Police state where top government officials can not be made to obey the law.

"I want to bring this risky development to the attention of all of you my colleagues, the entire country and the global community so that you can be aware of the level of impunity in our country and the danger it constitutes to our democracy".

Subsequently, the Senate agreed to send a nine-member delegation to urgently see President Muhammadu Buhari about the development.

The Senate resolved that the Senate President should lead a delegation to relay the concerns raised on the floor by Saraki.

The delegation would consist of the Senate President, the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan; the Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye; and the Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Others are: Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriations Danjuma Goje; his counterpart in Agriculture Abdullahi Adamu; Aliyu Wammako; Sam Egwu; Fatima Raji-Razaki and Oluremi Tinubu.
