  • Steve Smith and Joe Root contend the toss on day one of the 2017-18 Ashes series

However, Harbhajan Singh wants India to leave behind all the apprehensions related to day and night test cricket. If you play, you can adjust.

A newly-formed committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC), one that includes ex-international cricketers and coaches, elite panel umpires and match-referees, is keen on debating the idea of doing away with the "toss" in Test cricket.

Harbhajan, on the other hand, said: "Things could improve if Tests are arranged in centres which had not held too many big matches", he said.

Another possibility is copying the system used in the English County Championship, in which the away side is asked whether they wish to bowl first or opt for a traditional toss. And what makes us think our batsmen can't take up the challenge of facing Aussie pacers.

The 74-year-old insisted that toss is a crucial part of cricket and scrapping the same would take away the challenge that the winning skipper has of making the correct decision. "When we were new to Test cricket, we had only learnt how to bowl with SG Test ball and then slowly learnt to bowl with Kookaburra and Dukes", Harbhajan said.

Former India spinner Anil Kumble heads up the ICC cricket committee.

Known for his straight talking, the two-time World Cup victor put forth his point in presence of CoA chief Vinod Rai and CEO Rahul Johri.

"There is serious concern about the current level of home team interference in Test pitch preparation, and more than one committee member believes that the toss should be automatically awarded to the visiting team in each match - although there are some others on the committee who do not share that view". India batting on the first day and there were around thousand spectators only."India had a great team... players like Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman were there".
