The team, which featured several players who spoke out against President Donald Trump, was invited to the White House.

How many players actually show likely will remain a hot-button issue well beyond the visit in the wake of numerous team leaders saying they would not honor Trump with their presence because they oppose many of the policies he's enacted.

Despite the invitation, there are a few who won't be taking their talents to the White House and Eagles safety Malcolm Butler was the first to be asked about it.

The Eagles would be following an annual tradition where major sports champions head to Washington D.C.to visit the White House and the President of the United States. The White House said Thursday that the team's visit would take place June 5. "Me personally, because it's not a meeting or a sit-down or anything like that, I'm just not interested in the photo op". "If you want to meet to talk about events in my community, changing the country, I'm all for that". Long also skipped the White House visit a year ago when he was a member of the New England Patriots.

WHITE HOUSE: Who is (and isn't) going?

"My son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is, I don't want him to say, 'Hey Dad, why'd you go [to the White House] when you knew the right thing was to not go?'" Long said. The organization took its time weighing the political consequences the visit would effectuate, and until now is still undecided. Long, Jenkins and Smith are all part of the Players Coalition, which partnered with the National Football League to contribute almost $90 million over seven years to programs dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement, community relations and education.

Trump's comments from October, where he called on all owners to "fire" any player who chose to kneel for the anthem, didn't sit well with a lot of the players in the Eagles locker room.
