  • Simon Yates attacking with Tom Dumoulin looming behind him

Britain's Simon Yates retained the Giro d'Italia leader's pink jersey after Tuesday's 16th stage individual time-trial at Rovereto in northern Italy which was won by Australian Rohan Dennis.

Astana's rider Luis Leon Sanchez has spent a very solid and aggressive race, attacking for many times during the 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia.

Dennis, narrowly beaten by Dumoulin by just two seconds in the race's opening time trial in Jerusalem, rises from eleventh to sixth place on GC having got the better of both past and present world time trial champions, Martin and Dumoulin.

"I wasn't good, I had no power".

"I have a much bigger gap to the guys behind me, just not Tom as he's only a minute, but the guys behind him that's quite a lot". There's going to be guys going insane in the last week. "Simon has been untouchable so far, so it will be interesting to see how he goes after the time-trial and he goes in this last block, but I can't see anyone taking that jersey off his shoulders", said the 33-year-old. "I hope there won't be any surprises in the future but for now I don't see any reason to doubt his..."

Yates keeps Giro lead as Dennis wins stage

"Yates leads Dumoulin by 56 seconds with Italy's Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain Merida) trailing by 3'11" and needing to defend his place on the virtual podium from Froome.

"It's pretty good to beat time-trialists like Tony Martin and Tom Dumoulin", Dennis said.

"It really changes my tactics for the coming days, I think unfortunately for the fans I can be a lot more defensive", he added.

However, France's Thibaut Pinot lost more than three minutes on the stage victor to drop to fifth overall, 1 minute, 8 seconds off Italy's Domenico Pozzovivo, who occupies the final podium position.

Three decisive summit finishes in the Alps precede the final processional stage into Rome - but before then there's a potential banana-skin of a stage from Riva del Garda to Iseo.

Swashbuckling 'Solo' shoots its way into the 'Star Wars' canon
We particularly love this Lando figure, which effortlessly captures the coolness of Donald Glover's young Lando Calrissian . "A Star Wars Story" isn't the best " Star Wars " movie; it probably isn't even the best of the "new" " Star Wars " movies.
