In terms of design and appearance, the HTC seems unspectacular. So while it doesn't look quite as modern as its competition, it won't totally stand out in the crowd... for better or worse. Even in a crowded marketplace, slick design and some clever hardware helps the new phone stand out, hopefully appealing to more than just the HTC-faithful in the process. It has an all-glass and metal body, an 18:9 screen that isn't OLED (but LCD) but supports HDR 10 and DCI-P3, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB RAM, micro-SD expansion, 4 cameras (two on the front and two on the back), a new version of HTC's Edge Sense technology, and BoomSound Audio.

All this is similar to what was available on the previous HTC U handsets and the HTC-made Google Pixel 2 XL.

Reeling off specs for a flagship Android phone is these days nearly a copy and paste job.

After the One M8, the HTC U12+ brings back the dual rear camera.

The U12 can already be pre-ordered right away and is priced $799 and $849 for the 64 GB and 128 GB versions of the phone respectively. For objects further away, there is the main camera's 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. It means that HTC can offer a background-blurring bokeh mode whether you're shooting with the front or the back cameras, with a slider to adjust the blur effect; you can also, post-capture, tap to refocus in the resulting image. These are said to be 12-megapixel and 16-megapixel (Sony IMX3xx) shooters, to go along with a front-facing 8-megapixel camera for selfies.

HTC U12+ launch - Release, UK price and specs REVEALED in full

The Translucent Blue colour variant of the HTC U12 Plus. Edge Sense 2 now allows users to program shortcuts within apps for taps, holds and squeezes on the sides. Edge Sense 2 can also detect when your hands are situated a certain way so that if you tilt the phone while reading something, the orientation of the display won't change.

Going by the leak, it seems like HTC has given a complete overhaul to features of the U12 Plus.

There's no physical home button beneath the screen, so you'll need to settle for a virtual home button. HTC has done away with them altogether.

The HTC U12 Plus has more visually in common with the HTC U11 Plus than the standard HTC U11, but that's perhaps no surprise. It's not almost risky enough for a vendor that can't even justify paying to sell its phones through a mobile carrier in the United States. The phone will be available in both Translucent Blue and Ceramic Black colors to begin, but Flame Red will eventually come to market as well. This is something we all have faced, but this time, HTC chose to add a separate feature that fixes this issue.
