  • Game of Thrones prequel series Jane Goldman

HBO has given a pilot order to a prequel series from writer Jane Goldman, one of five "Game of Thrones" projects that has been in the works.

Goldman, whose screenwriting credits include Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Kingsman: The Secret Service, co-created the show with Game of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin.

History is long and full of terrors, and the next series in the Game of Thrones universe is going to show us all of 'em.

OK, ready to know what the buzzed-about prequel will be about?

The show will be a prequel, with heavy emphasis on the "pre" part: It takes place thousands of years before the events of "GoT" and will chronicle the end of the Age of Heroes in Westeros and the beginning of "the darkest hour" in the land's history, including the origin of the White Walkers.

Argentina's Lanzini ruled out of World Cup
After Mauro Icardi's big season for Inter, the FC crew question his omission from Argentina's 23-man squad for the World Cup. Argentina's national team is due to travel to Russian Federation on Saturday for the World Cup .

Goldman will script and showrun the pilot, based on a story crafted with Martin. It's a formative period in the history of Martin's world, and given how important the White Walkers are to Game of Thrones' final seasons in particular, it could make the flawless prequel follow-up. The other four writers are Max Borenstein, Brian Helgeland, Cary Wray, and Bryan Cogman.

The potential new series will venture thousands of years into the past according to the official description reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

As Thrones prepares to wrap up its run with an eighth and final season in 2019, it was never a question of whether HBO would choose to continue the run of its most successful property ever, but which story would be picked up. Goldman will also serve as the showrunner (the role Benioff and Weiss had on Game of Thrones).

One last thing - HBO has ordered a pilot for this Game of Thrones prequel but they may eventually order several more as well, which was the reason why they had five or six different projects being developed in the first place.
