Aletta is the first hurricane of the 2018 season in the eastern Pacific. Hurricane Aletta, which formed early Wednesday, achieved hurricane status on Thursday afternoon, after its sustained winds climbed to 120 km/h. Fortunately for Mexicans and travellers alike, the storm's track keeps it well offshore throughout its life cycle.

Aletta is the first hurricane of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season - and the first major hurricane.

Forecasters said Aletta is now a Category 3 hurricane. It was moving west-northwest at 6 miles per hour (9 kph). Infrared satellite images show the storm has a distinct, 20-mile wide eye, with deep convection.

Forecasters said the hurricane may gain more intensity before a combination of increased wind shear and decreasing ocean heat will cause Aletta to break down.

Argentina's Lanzini ruled out of World Cup
After Mauro Icardi's big season for Inter, the FC crew question his omission from Argentina's 23-man squad for the World Cup. Argentina's national team is due to travel to Russian Federation on Saturday for the World Cup .

To the southeast of Aletta, another area of disturbed weather is forecast to become a tropical depression or storm in the next 48 hours. Another disturbance trailing behind it has a high chance of developing into Tropical Storm Bud over the weekend.

An average Eastern Pacific hurricane season produces 15 to 16 named storms, with eight to nine becoming hurricanes and four becoming major hurricanes.

For now, it is too soon for experts to know whether this second storm would pose any direct threat to the Mexican Pacific next week.
