But the businessman said last Friday that he was not sure if he would attend Pride Toronto on June 24 if he was elected as premier.

But for progressives who lent their support to the NDP in Thursday's election - one in three voters - the election of a Doug Ford government may be the worst of times.

His election promises included income tax cuts, scrapping the updated sex-ed curriculum and opposing a carbon tax.

Charles McVety's Facebook post on Doug Ford's win. Current rules dictate that a party needs to have a minimum of eight elected members in order to qualify as an officially recognized party in the legislature.

How small is one of the many questions still to be decided, but she predicted the difference will be a "noticeable" change.

"I think it is too early to say whether we'll see the same kind of antipathy towards the Liberal government in Quebec in October", Chouinard told CBC News.

Canadian prime minister and Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau released a statement following Ford's win, offering him his "sincere congratulations". The Green Party meanwhile, picked up its first ever seat in the province.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will hold a press conference following the crushing defeat her party suffered Thursday night. He says "I have said previously that there were policies in each of the Liberal, PC and NDP platforms that would be good for the city". He will lead a majority government. My dad today when I took him, he and my mum, to vote, he was talking about how his mum talked so much about not having been able to vote until she was 30 or so and he says it's just like yesterday he remembers that. Shortly after the results were announced, Wynne stepped down as party leader.

Unofficial results now indicate that 58 per cent of eligible voters in the province cast their ballot, including those who voted by mail, at returning offices, in hospital, through home visit, during advance voting and on election day.

Put it another way: intentionally or not, voters managed to send to Queen's Park a Liberal caucus that represents a continuation of at least part of Wynne's leadership - not a wholesale repudiation of it. She inherited a government already rife with billion-dollar scandals, but under her leadership more fuel was added to the fire, such as rising hydro bills and questionable government spending. By the same token, it may be a sign of things to come for the Quebec Liberals.
