Harvey Weinstein pled not guilty to rape and sexual assault in a Manhattan court Tuesday morning.

Harvey Weinstein appeared in a NY court yesterday to enter his plea after he was charged and arrested last week.

"It's long overdue for him to face this", said Gloria Allred, an attorney who represents women accusing men of sexual harassment, told reporters outside the court.

Benjamin Brafman, one of America's most celebrated criminal defense attorneys, did most of the talking for the mogul at his hearing.

The two women are among scores who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct ranging from rape to harassment.

The producer, who has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex and plead not guilty this morning in a New York City courtroom, purchased the nearly 5.75-acre oceanfront estate in two transactions, the first in 1994 and the second in 2000, for a total of just under $8.25 million. On Tuesday, Brafman also said he would file a motion to have the cases against Weinstein severed, meaning the mogul would face separate trials on the charges brought by each woman.

"As awful as the crime of rape is, it is equally reprehensible to be falsely accused", Brafman said. Actress Lucia Evans said Mr. Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him back in 2004. Another unnamed woman accused Weinstein of rape in 2013.

The Associated Press does not identify alleged victims of sexual assaults unless they come forward publicly.

Over the past six months, Weinstein and ex-wife Georgina Chapman, co-founder of fashion house Marchesa and a judge on "Project Runway All Stars", have liquidated most if not all of their homes for a total of more than $53 million.

Prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney's office reportedly met privately with another woman on Monday after she and two other plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against Weinstein. Through her law firm, Thompson said she was comfortable with being named publicly. Prosecutors in the office of the Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance conducted dozens of interviews in NY and elsewhere and issued hundreds of subpoenas, and their inquiry is not over.

Police set up a sting in which the woman recorded herself confronting Weinstein and him apologizing for his conduct. A judge ordered him released on a $1 million cash bail on condition that he surrender his USA passport and agree to wear a location-tracking device. Weinstein will be in court on September 20 for the next major pretrial hearing.
