Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau listens while addressing the final news conference of the G7 summit in the Charlevoix city of La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, June 9, 2018.

Besides the escalated risk of a trade war, Trump's blistering personal attack on Trudeau poses domestic economic and political risks for the Canadian prime minister, who has stuck to a conciliatory stance in the face of US threats on NAFTA and other bilateral trade cases.

Exiting a world summit with characteristic bravado, President Donald Trump delivered a stark warning Saturday to America's trading partners not to counter his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. "And when we can underscore this - and we see that there's a lot of pressure within the United States - then perhaps he will revise or review his statements".

He said the move was based on Mr Trudeau's "false statements. and the fact that Canada is charging massive tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies".

"We are focused on everything we accomplished here at the #G7 summit".

The announcements come as Mr. Trump seeks to make headway on the deep USA trade deficit, saying the country has been taken advantage of for too long, and he is fighting back.

While talking tough with USA allies such as Canada and the E.U., Trump repeated his call for Russian Federation to be allowed back into the elite club, which includes Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the US and Japan. "And it's going to stop".

With Trump rejecting those compromises and turning his back on an agreement, can the G7 remain intact?

As the couples strolled, reporters tried to get Trudeau's reaction to being called "weak" by the President Trump.

French President Emmanuel Macron, whose country will host next year's summit in summer in the Atlantic resort of Biarritz, had no comment on Trump's tweets but had already said work would continue to find a consensus on trade.

On Friday, Mr Trump made a surprise call for Moscow to be readmitted but German Chancellor Angela Merkel said other members were against the idea.

The U.S. president will leave the summit Saturday morning, the White House said, just before meetings begin on climate change, energy policy and oceans. But the chaos has continued well into Trump's second year in office - and has been compounded by an internal divide among Trump's own top economic advisers.

Canada is "polite, we're reasonable but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau added.

Trump's presidency has been clouded by a federal investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and possible collusion by his campaign. In fact, Russian Federation was expelled from what was then the G-8 after it invaded and annexed Crimea and for its support for pro-Russia separatists in Ukraine.

Germany also said it would abide by the communique.

Earlier on Twitter, Macron said six of the seven G7 countries "do not mind" signing an agreement if need be - essentially isolating the United States.

Trudeau said he had told Trump that the talks had been made more complicated by a USA decision to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, ostensibly for national security reasons.
